1. Bullet2 apples (peeled, cored and sliced)

  2. Bullet4 - 5 dried apricots

  3. Bullet1/4 cup raisins

  4. Bullet2 dates

  5. Bullet1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

  6. Bullet1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  7. Bullet1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

  8. Bullet2 tablespoons ground almonds (to garnish)

Mix all the ingredients with 1.5 cups water, bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Transfer 1/3 of the mixture to a food processor or a blender including the liquid and blend until purée. Place the remaining of the mixture into a serving bowl and add the purée on top of it garnishing with the almonds. Enjoy when it’s warm.

This recipe is from the Ayurvedic cooking book “Eat Taste Heal” recommended as a  breakfast for vata types. However I don’t see any harm to enjoy it as a pitta! I have made slight changes according to my taste; such as adding raisins instead of maple syrup and ground almonds to garnish.

Yummy! Stewed Apples
